- 1 tsp or To Taste Salt
- 1 Cup Cooking Oil: Any- To Fry the Marinated Fish Pieces
- For the Curry:
- 1 Onion- Big & Finely Chopped
- 1-2 Tomatoes: Big & Finely Chopped
- 1 tbsp (2 G) Paste
- 3-4 Fresh Green Chillies: Slit
- Tempering Spices:
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1/4 tsp Fenugreek Seeds
- 1/4 tsp Fennel Seeds
- 1/4 tsp Nigella Seeds
- 1/2 tsp Black Peppercorns: Freshly Cracked
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
- 1 tbsp Fresh Lemon Juice
- 1 piece Dry Lemon (if available)
- 1 tbsp Fish Curry Powder: (I didn’t use it though since I don’t use any such store bought curry powders ever)
- 1/4 Cup Fresh Coriander Leaves: Finely Chopped
- 4 tbsps Cooking Oil: Canola/OO/Veg. Oil
- As Required Water: Hot (For the Gravy Consistency and Sautéing Purpose)
Steps to make to make Arabian Fish Saloni/Salooni: Spicy Fish Curry
- First Up: Wash the fish pieces & marinate that with the aforesaid required ingredients for the same & set aside for at least 30-45 mins time, before frying them until light/dark golden brown- as per your choice or even, just not fry it & let it cook directly along with the fish curry or gravy (that’s how, many prefer in the land)
- Once the fish pieces are already fried- Strain & Set Aside for its later use in the curry Heat up a frying pan over the medium flame and add in the cooking oil in it & then, in goes the chopped onions and the 2G Paste- Sauté until nicely soft and lightly browned- In goes the rest all other chopped veggies that’s been used, one by one & keep sautéing all that until they turn quite soft
- In goes the seasonings at this point & continue cooking- Add in some dash of hot water, to well sauté the veggies & the gravy mixture to be cooked in nicely & the raw smell goes off from all & they look quite tender and luscious- Now, throw in the rest all other dry spices & ingredients one by one & continue cooking until nicely combined and well blended & incorporated into the mixture & the oil surfaces upto the pan nicely
- At this point, add in the remaining hot water to adjust the gravy consistency as per your choice & requirements- Bring it to the rolling boil, drop down the fried fish pieces to it now and mix everything well together until nicely combined- Reduce the flame to the medium-low, cover it up with a lid and let it slow cook for another 8-10 mins time before turning off the flame
- Once that’s done: Before turning off the flame- Add in the finely chopped parsley/coriander leaves & a dash of fresh lemon juice to be squeezed in for the extra tangy & zesty flavours- Let it sit in its standing position for another 10 mins time before serving it piping hot with any choicest breads or rice dishes, from the land- Our Arabic Fish Saloni is absolutely ready to be grabbed now ENJOY…
