- 6 pieces Rohu Fish
- 2 medium size of onions
- 2 medium size of tomatoes
- 1 inch ginger
- 3 slitted green chillies
- 2 tbsp whisked curd
- 1.5 tsp turmeric powder
- 1.5 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 dry red chillies
- 3 cloves
- 2 cardamoms
- 1 inch cinnamon stick
- 9-10 raisins
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- to taste Salt
- As needed Hot water
- as required Oil
Steps to make to make Rui Mach er Kaalia (Rohu Fish Kaalia)
- Smear the cleaned fish pieces with 1/2 tsp turmeric powder & salt. Heat oil in a kadhai, once it is smoking hot, fry the fish pieces into batches, fry it until they are crisp & slight reddish in colour.
- Thinly slice half onion and fry it for 3-4 mins & keep it aside. Make a paste of remaining onion with ginger and keep it aside.
- In the same pan, add some more oil, once its hot, add dry red chillies, followed by cumin seeds, cloves, cardamoms & cinnamon and fry it for 1 min. Next add the onion ginger paste, sugar and cook it well for about 4-5 mins.
- Next lower the flame, add turmeric powder & kashimiri red chili powder, cook it for 2-3 mins, add the chopped tomatoes, salt to taste & cook it well, until the tomatoes becomes soft and mushy.
- Next add the cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and cook the masala well by adding little hot water at a time until oil starts to separate from sides of the pan.
- Next add the whisked curd and contiously stir it for 2-3 mins, next add hot water as per the desired consistency of the gravy.
- Once the gravy starts to boil, add the fried fish pieces, raisins & slitted green chilies, mix it well. Cover and allow it cook for 4-5 mins or until the gravy reaches your desired consistency.
- Lastly add some garam masala powder, fried onions and further cook it for 2 minutes and it's done. Serve it hot with some steamed rice and enjoy.
